• Cut out surfboards out of white posterboard (small enough to fit into standard envelopes to mail).  Write in guests name and then underneath their name, type their name in Hawaiian ~ see below.  Write party information in on the 'surfboard'.  Have your child decorate with stickers and markers. 

• Have everyone dress in Hawaiian attire (floral print "hawaiian shirts, etc.). (make sure to note this on your invitation)
• Set up tiki torches (outdoors only)
• Decorate tables with brightly colored floral and solid tablecloths and use raffia table skirting.
• Use pineapples, coconuts, bananas and kiwi in a big wicker basket for centerpieces on your tables.
• Purchase Hawaiian-themed (such as Hula Girl, or Flamingo) plates, and cups, with solid matching napkins.
• Wrap plastic silverware in the napkin and secure with tropical flower.
• Hang paper lanterns and an inflatable parrot in the trees.
• Play "Island" music.  Drew's Hawaiian Luau cd is the perfect addition to a luau party!  

• Serve teriyaki chicken and pork kabobs, and tropical smoothies. (easy recipe: blend bananas, strawberries, plain yogurt, milk and ice ~ you can also use ice cream to make it sweeter. Garnish drinks with pineapple chunks, cherries, strawberries on little plastic swords and to finish, an umbrella straw .

• Serve fruit kabobs.  Cut up bananas, starfruit, melon, mango, and kiwi.  Add grapes and strawberries.  Arrange on wooden skewers.  You can either drizzle fruit with melted chocolate or make a fruit dip out of marshmallow cream and cream cheese.  Display on brightly colored platter.

• For place cards or invitations: Find out guest's Hawaiian name! See www.hisurf.com/hawaiian/names.html  Just type in their name and click "Find My Name!". Then, on the place card, write in the guest's name and then their Hawaiian name underneath. Then just decorate the card with Hawaiian stickers or drawings (palm trees, parrots, pineapple, hula girl, etc.). Your guest will get a kick out of it and it's a fun way to break the ice!
